DESIGN
It is often said that the best way to predict the future is to create it. How do you do that? Design thinking is an effective practice to create solutions for real problems that people experience today. But how can you discover what people might do in the future and how they might react to challenges that haven’t presented themselves yet? That is where speculative design comes in. Speculative design uses the same principles as design thinking, but it starts from some time horizon in the future. By speculating what might happen and showing those prototypes to people today, you gain a better understanding of potential future reactions to changes. Training yourself and your team in this practice grows your ability to anticipate change.

WITH THIS PRACTICE
YOU WILL LEARN TO:
- Analyze problems to find impactful solutions
- Drive outcome driven innovation
- Design from an end user’s perspective
- Create speculative designs
- Prototype solutions and find hidden assumptions
